I reached a couple milestones this week.
I had my first encounter with pregnancy heartburn. Before this I thought to myself, "Psh. I can handle heartburn. I've had it before." Turns out it's not quite the same. If I have it consistently like I had it the other night, I'm going to explode from annoyance. Any magical heartburn cures are welcome! I've supplied a comment box just for them! (Well... sort of...) This is how I feel about heartburn. See below:
"Um... please no?" Please note the lazy right eye... :)
I also had my first hardcore leg cramp last night. Kirby and I were watching The Karate Kid (my first time ever seeing it, actually) on his laptop in the living room when my entire leg cramped in a way it never has before. Don't worry. I thought I could handle leg cramps, too. I get charley horses in my calves all the time, especially in bed. But, again, this wasn't even close to the same. Sigh. I have no idea what I will do if I get one while I'm shopping or something. Sit down in the aisle till it goes away? Hum. Here's how I feel about leg cramps:
"You cramp up and I will take you down, Leg. Believe me, I will..."
On a funnier note--I looked at my belly button the first time since I've begun to show, and it is rapidly disappearing! I am now mildly obsessed with it. I can actually see the bottom!
And the best news ever! I made a rag quilt this week! PAH! And it is SO CUTE. No joke. I am so proud of it. I just decided one day that I was going to make one, so I went and got fabric, looked up how online (turns out it is one of the easiest things to do), and did it. Tada! Now I want to make one for me. This one is technically for our girlie--it's supposed to be crib sized.
And, upon request... Some belly pictures! Took these last night. Well, let's be honest. Kirby took them. And he took 42 pictures in the 2 minutes we had the camera out. Pahaha. So this is me at 28 weeks and 2 days! The first two trimesters have come and gone!

i LOVE your rag quilt you made for your baby girl. you picked out some super cute fabric! i made those for both of my kids before they were born and to this day they are still they're favorite that they go to sleep with every night. there is nothing like that mother love. way to go!!
I am not pregnant, but have heartburn every day (acid reflux). I am dreading being pregnant because you're not allowed to take medications, right? I use a combination of Prilosec and Pepcid Complete. So, bad news is I have no suggestions for heartburn. Good news is you look SO BEAUTIFUL! (Not very comforting when you have heartburn and leg cramps, but you'll take what you can get, right?) :)
haha...oh the flash backs. I swear the motto I want to tatoo to my head when I'm pregnant is "Whoever said pregnancy was such a beautiful time was a LIAR." It's fun, but it really sucks in some ways. I had HORRIBLE heartburn and couldn't take the Pepcid or tums because they made me puke. I took Zantac (Dr. Okay'd) and it seemed to work well. For leg cramps if you feel the slightest hint that you might get one immediately flex your calf (i.e. put your heel way down and point your toes up to your nose) and hold it. I got 1 or 2 terrible ones with my first pregnancy and learned this trick and I never got them with L. I was always able to keep it at bay by doing so. Even in my sleep if I felt one coming on I would do this and it always seemed to work. I hope that helps. You look fantastic by the way! You're adorable.
First of all...YOU ARE SO CUTE! I love the belly shots, and the quilt is adorable!
Secondly...I am sooo sorry about the heartburn and leg cramps. I had the heartburn so bad that we actually stopped on our way to the hospital when Aubrey was being born, so I could pick up some more tums (because I knew they wouldn't let me eat any once I go there). And the cramps! I don't know what to tell you, other than it will all be over soon...and even though you don't feel like it now, some day you will feel normal again! Hang in there:)
o wow. congrats on getting the first two trimesters done! you know lauren, you're so funny :) I love reading your blog postings
love the quilt! awesome job. Yea for belly pictures! you look so cute. good luck with the heartburn... sounds horrible!
PRILOSEC is my very very best friend while I'm pregnant. If it doesn't cut it, Dr. Jones can prescribe somethin' stronger. You are adorable and I want you to teach me how to make a cute blanket!!!
Hey, Lauren! So happy for you! About the heartburn--it sucks!! It should be illegal!! I had it bad too. Find out what triggers heartburn: for me, it was tomato-based foods, and sadly, chocolate. (Both are common) So, don't eat them (your triggers), in any form--ever! You will always regret it! Elevate your bed a couple inches at the head. Don't eat (or drink) 2-3 hours before bedtime. Take prilosec/pepcid/zantac/whatever before eating and before bed. (NO JOKE, I carried liquid mylanta in purse with me at ALL times and sipped it like an addict!!) Careful with liquidy-foods (sauces, syrups, soups, etc.) as those are easier to "come up" if you know what I mean. I hope this helps. Good luck and I am so excited for you guys!
Lauren! I love your pictures. Being pregnant is a wonderful thing.
You're so cute, Lauren. :D
